The doctrine / teaching of the trinity; what is our response?

1st Sunday after TrinityJune 14th 2020

Trinity Sunday is after Pentecost and it is the beginning of the celebration of the triune God, according to the Anglican Church calendar, the season last about 24 weeks. During the period, teachings covering various aspects of God are given with the aim of making the church come to know God better, the word means three persons; that is father, son and Holy Spirit in one God

“How do we respond to the teaching or doctrine of the Trinity?

1. God reveals himself as trinity

Throughout the scriptures from Old Testament to New Testament we see that God reveals himself as father, son and the Holy Spirit. The father possess everything which he entrust to the son and the Holy Spirit enable the execution of all God s purposes on earth and in heaven.

2. The doctrine of trinity is a fundamental Christian truth

This is a mystery which Christians have to come to terms with, no one can claim to understand because it’s about God, and none of us sincerely can claim to know God all that well. God will always remain God; that is a mystery.

According to Athanasius creed we see an extraordinary truth about God portrayed where God the father, son and Holy Spirit in their distinctive nature is clearly/ visibly seen in three distinctive ways.

3. Unity:

The unity of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit as seen in the triune God teaches the people of God to likewise be united in spite of their differences of race, tribe, languages, wealth and size etc.

4. Relationships:

God is about relationships; that is, father, son and Holy Spirit are the three persons of the triune God. They relate so well that none of them undermines or competes with the other, this means that we believers must work for a harmonious relationship between us with God and us with fellow human beings. God is love and those who live in love live with God, that is (1st John 4:16), the greatest commandment is love, Gods people must love one another (john 13:34, 35). Let love define the relationship among God’s  people.

5. He is Holy.

The king, the Lord of host is Holy (Isiah 6:6-8), we are called upon to worship the Lord of host who is Holy in his splendor of his holiness. The reason for God’s people existence on earth is for them to worship the King, the Lord of the Host, the holy one of Israel. We must worship only him and serve him alone.

6. He is eternal

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty who was and is and is to come (Revelation 4:8), also read (Ephesians 1:3-14), (john 14:18-17, 16:12-15).

7. Belief

Without faith it is impossible to please God, the Christian believers must firmly believe in  the triune God so as to have peace, joy, salvation and eternal life (Hebrews 11:6).

In conclusion, trinity is a concept which all Christian believers must embrace, whether they understand or not, because it’s about God, God will always remain God, a mystery which none of us can understand fully.
