LIVING & GROWING AS A CHRISTIAN: DISCIPLESHIP” (MATTHEW 11:29)

Rev Grace Lubaale

2ndSUNDAY OF ADVENT SUNDAY OF 9th DECEMBER 2018

You are most welcome for today’s service in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Today our focus is on living and growing as aChristian through being a good disciple

In science, ‘living’ refers to things that have life, therefore ‘alive’.  So, even Christians must be alive with life as evidence of living, thus believing in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, the giver of life.  Those with life, who belong to Christ, have crucified their sinful nature with its passions and have received the Fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control (Galatians 5:22-24).

‘Growing’ is ‘moving from one level to another level’, therefore those with life move forward and continuously stay transformed.

Discipleship: there is a balance to the Christian life, new enemies but new hope, a fight to be fought but strength and power to follow Christ as Master. Living in Christ needs discipline and willingness to learn. It requires hard work that will result in joy and peace.

When we become Christians, we hand over our whole life to Jesus as the first disciples did. Jesus can then teach us by discipline and so mould us into his likeness. He needs to be able to control our use of our body, time, possession, talent and ambitions so as to enable us be useful in building up the kingdom.

When we become disciples then the lifestyle we exhibit at all times, in all situations, should be Christ-like – a lifestyle, to draw others to follow Him, and prove to the world that we are His disciples (John 13:35).

In conclusion, all Christians should share the goodness of Jesus with others through all that they say and do, as it was in the early Church (Acts 2:42-47). A good disciple learns by listening, watching and doing (imitation) Matthew11:29 thus wining many for Christ, hence Church growth.

May the Lord God the Father of our Lord Jesus strengthen you in all circumstances and at all times to be good disciples of our lord through our Christ-like lifestyle which will draw others to Him.
