Farewell and Appreciation Service for Reverend Canon John Awodi

Held at St. Luke’s Chapel Mulago – Kampala Diocese

On 24th August 2025, the congregation of St. Luke’s Chapel Mulago gathered with friends, family, and leaders of the Kampala Diocese to celebrate a special farewell and appreciation service for the Diocesan Secretary, Reverend Canon John Awodi.

The service was filled with thanksgiving, worship, and expressions of gratitude for Canon Awodi’s faithful ministry and dedicated service to the Church of Uganda. As Diocesan Secretary, he has served with humility, wisdom, and a Christ-centered vision, leaving a lasting legacy of faith and leadership in the Diocese.

The Sermon

Fittingly, Canon Awodi himself delivered the sermon, preaching under the theme:

“Behave as Christ’s Witness”
Philippians 2:12–16

Drawing from St. Paul’s exhortation to the Philippians, he reminded the Church of its calling to live as faithful witnesses of Christ in both word and action. He emphasized:

  • Obedience in faith — just as Paul urged believers to continue in obedience even in his absence, Christians are called to live out their faith with integrity whether seen or unseen.
  • Shining as lights — in a world often clouded by darkness, believers must reflect the light of Christ, holding firmly to the word of life.
  • Witness through character — beyond preaching, our daily conduct should testify to the transforming power of the Gospel.

His message challenged all present to deepen their commitment to Christ, walking in holiness and demonstrating love, humility, and service in every sphere of life.

Thanksgiving and Appreciation

Throughout the service, heartfelt tributes were shared by clergy and lay leaders, recognizing Canon Awodi’s tireless service in strengthening the administration and spiritual life of the Diocese of Kampala. He was celebrated as a leader who has not only guided with wisdom but also cared deeply for the flock of Christ.

The congregation joined in prayer for Canon Awodi, asking God to bless his next chapter of ministry with fruitfulness and grace.

Conclusion

The day ended in joy, fellowship, and thanksgiving — a true celebration of a faithful servant of God. The Diocese of Kampala will remember this moment as both a farewell and a commissioning, as Rev. Canon John Awodi continues to serve as a witness of Christ wherever the Lord leads him.
