Youth Sunday: Welcoming First Years Under the Theme “Saved by Grace, Not Works”

On Sunday, 14th September 2025, St. Luke’s Chapel Mulago held a vibrant Youth Sunday service where the youth ministry not only led the entire worship but also warmly welcomed First Year students to the church family.

The day’s theme, drawn from Ephesians 2:1–10, was “Saved by Grace and not Works.” In the sermon, the youth preacher reminded the congregation that salvation is a free gift of God, not something earned by our efforts. As Scripture says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). This powerful reminder challenged all present to rest in God’s grace and live as testimonies of His mercy.

Throughout the service, the youth were fully involved in ministry, taking Scripture readings, leading praise and worship, interceding in prayer, and proclaiming God’s Word. Their energy and devotion gave a refreshing witness of youthful faith in action.

The First Year students welcomed included those from institutions under the Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences (UIAHMS), worshiping under their chapel, the Allied Health Anglican Chapel, as well as students from the Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery, worshiping under the Mulago Anglican Fellowship. Their presence brought joy and new life to the congregation.

After the service, a special youth gathering was held inside the chapel to officially welcome the First Years. Speeches of encouragement and welcome were delivered by the Youth Chairperson, Ordinand Ikonde Edward, and by the chapel clergy, Rev. Paska Anene Ochungkoma, who both urged the students to find a spiritual home in the chapel and remain grounded in faith during their time of study.

The fellowship concluded with the cutting of cake and sharing of snacks—a moment that strengthened bonds and left everyone feeling part of one big family in Christ.

The day was a beautiful reminder that God is raising a generation of young believers who are passionate about His Word, ready to serve, and eager to live out the truth that we are truly saved by grace.
