St. Luke’s Chapel Mulago is thrilled to announce that our beloved former Associate Chaplain, Rev. Canon Associate Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale, has been elected as the fourth Bishop of Busoga Diocese by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda. This historic appointment was made on October 7, 2025, during a session at Lweza Training and Conference Centre, marking a significant milestone for both Rev. Lubaale and the Busoga Diocese centered in Jinja.
Rev. Lubaale served faithfully at St. Luke’s Chapel Mulago from 2011 to 2019 as Associate Chaplain under the leadership of Rev. Canon John Awodi and Rev. Canon Festus Udong. During his tenure, he was a pillar of spiritual guidance, education, and community outreach, leaving an indelible mark on our congregation through his dedication to pastoral care, discipleship, and social initiatives.
Born on October 9, 1978, in Bugombya Zone, Butansi Parish, Kamuli District, Rev. Lubaale accepted Christ in 1994 and was ordained as a deacon in 2008 and a priest in 2009 in the Diocese of Kampala. An Associate Professor at Kyambogo University in the Faculty of Social Sciences, he holds a PhD in Development Studies, two Master’s degrees in Theology and Development Studies, and a Bachelor’s in Arts with Education. He is married to Clare Louise Atuheirwe, and they have four children.
Rev. Lubaale’s election as Bishop, succeeding Rt. Rev. Dr. Moses Naimanhe Mukembo, whose tenure ends in December 2025, reflects his extensive contributions to education, human rights, theology, and community development. He will be consecrated and enthroned on December 14, 2025, at Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja.
The St. Luke’s Chapel Mulago community joins the Church of Uganda in celebrating this momentous occasion. We are immensely proud of Rev. Lubaale’s journey and his continued impact on the Church and society. Congratulations to Bishop-elect Lubaale, and may God guide him in his new role as he leads Busoga Diocese in spiritual growth and community empowerment.
