TRINITY: GOD THE FATHER (Gen 1:1-31, 2:1-4; Acts 17:22-30 and John 1:1-18)

3rd SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY, SUNDAY OF 17th JUNE 2018

You are most welcome for today’s service in the precious name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Trinity means that God is one in his essential Being but in this Being, there are three persons: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit; yet they do not form separate and distinct individuals.

Furthermore, the subsistence and operations of the three persons are marked by a certain order involving certain subordination in relation though not in nature. The Father as the fount of deity is first; He is said to originate. The Son, eternally begotten of the Father, is second; He is said to reveal. The Spirit, eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son is Third; He is said to execute. Thus we can say that creation is from the Father, through the Son by the Holy Spirit. From the above we come to conclude about God the Father as:

  • Creator: maker of Heaven and Earth (Genesis 1:1-31, 2:1-4)
  • Provider: Evident in life of the Israelites (Exodus, Psalm 102:19, Ephesians 1:3)
  • Transcendent: Beyond and external to all as is the creation of the universe
  • Imminent: Present and active in creation as seen in (Genesis, Exodus and Acts 17:28)
  • Sovereignty: Master of all here on earth and in heaven (1Chronicles 29:11, Job 23:13)
  • Holy: Very pure and Righteous ( Psalm 99:9, Revelation 15:4)
  • Immutable: Unchangeable in all situations ( Malachi 3:6, James 1:17)
  • Omnipotent: Able to do everything (Isaiah 40:10ff)
  • Omnipresent: Present everywhere at all times ( Psalm 139:7-8)
  • Omniscient : Knowledgeable on every things ( Psalm 139:1-4)

Conclusion:

God the Father is truly a living one i.e. Trinity removes Him far from any conception of stagnation or mere passivity. Further, God is full of life i.e. living in external relationship and in never ceasing fellowship, besides making Himself clear in words and in acts of self-revelation.

May God bless you as you ponder on the Trinity in general and God the Father in particular.
