2ND SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY, SUNDAY 30th JUNE 2019
Introduction

We welcome you all to this service in the most precious name of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus.
Trinity means Three Persons in One, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Today our focus will be on “God the Son” the second Person of the Trinity from the Gospel of St. John 1:1-14, under the theme “Divinity of Jesus Christ”.
Divinity means above human. So the ‘divinity of Jesus Christ’ means ‘the supernatural being of Jesus as God’. Jesus’ divine nature (divinity) is considered as an essential doctrine. It is also known as “the deity of Jesus Christ” which asserts that He was and He is the Son of God Incarnate, who is fully God and fully man, with two natures, i.e. human nature and divine nature, as taught by St. Paul in Colossians 2:9 cf John 1:14.

• In the divine nature, Jesus is reflected as God (John 1:1-14), He was the “Word”, existed before the universe was created, He was with God, and He was God, God created everything through Him. “Word” (Genesis 1:3), He was life, light and creator of the universe (John 1:10); “let us make …” cf (Genesis 1:26-27). All these demonstrate Jesus’ divine nature as God throughout the creation history to date.
• His conception was power of God through the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35ff) and His birth was witnessed by the stars and angels (Matthew 2:2ff, Luke 2:6ff).
• His baptism was witnessed by a physical symbol of the Holy Spirit in form of a dove, and a voice from heaven (Matthew 3:13ff).
• The forty days’ fast was divine (Matthew 4:1-11) and His ministry (Matthew 14:23-33). “You are really the Son of God”.
• Jesus performed several Miracles like healing of the official’s son (John 4:48-50), Jesus walking on water (Mark 6:48-50) and Feeding of the 5,000 people (Mark 6:40-44) among others.
• His death and crucifixion was divine (Mark 15).
• His resurrection from the dead and Ascension to heaven was divine (Mark 16)
• As God’s people, through His grace, we share Jesus’ natural aspects – the breath of life is divine, the image, design, colour, tribe, talents we possess are divine (Genesis 1:26-27 cf Psalms 139:13-16). You are wonderfully and divinely made and you are ‘special’. So do not misuse your body, image, talents for your selfish needs, but use them for the will of God.

In conclusion, in order to realize fully the divinity of Jesus Christ in our lives, we need to completely believe and trust in God, by accepting and receiving Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour (John 1:12) for He alone is our Source of Salvation(Acts 4:12) and our hope in whatever situation. He is faithful to us even as we are unfaithful to Him. We will never be disappointed when we trust Him with our lives (Romans 10:11) Let him also be the Lord of our lives whom we must always honour.
