Second Sunday After Easter, Sunday 26th April, 2020
My Dear brothers and sisters from St. Luke Chapel, greetings to you in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I do hope that you and your families are well. I bring you greetings from the clergy team at St.Luke’s Chapel.
Our topic for sharing on this Sunday morning is: On the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35)
The title for this portion of scripture is: on the road to Emmaus, but on reading these verses you could easily re-name it “ on the road of disappointment.” Two of Jesus’ disciples were walking to Emmaus and verse 17b says they looked sad! And they had many reasons to feel that way,
- Their leader (who some hoped would redeem Israel from Roman rule) had been killed brutally.
- Their prophet had died.
- Their miracle worker (one who would feed them with bread and fish) had died.
And besides all this, three days had since passed since his death. It seemed that all their hopes had been dashed to the ground.
Friends who in this season (of corona virus pandemic) has not been affected ? Almost all spheres of life have been dwelt a blow in one way or another.
Many of us are disappointed, sad, not very sure of what the future holds.
But just like the two disappointed disciples on the road to Emmaus, when Jesus appeared to them and spoke in their lives they were greatly encouraged and ran back to encourage the other disciples.
Friends, even in the midst of this trouble all around us, the fear of disease and death, Jesus still reigns as King and Lord. Will you let him be the Shepherd of your soul/life?.
