NEED FOR CONFESSION

4th SUNDAY OF LENT, SUNDAY OF 31st MARCH 2019

We welcome you all for today’s service in the most precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. A special welcome to all our visitors.

Today I would like to share about the need for confession of sins.

What is Confession?

Confession is to acknowledge or admit sin before God for example in Leviticus 5:5; Nehemiah 1:6; 1John 1:9. It also means stating publically one’s allegiance to God as evident in Romans 10:9 and Philippians 2:11.

Both aspects above are central to nurturing a genuine faith of Christians.

Types of Confession;

  1. Private confession: This involves confessing directly to your God through the mediation of Jesus Christ. (1John 2:1).
  2. Mutual Confession: Which involves confessing of sin to one another as is recorded in James 5:16.
  3. Public confession; Which involves confessing of sins to the public that was offended (cf 1Cor. 5:2)

Purpose of Confession:

  • The purpose of confession is majorly to accept or admit our sinful nature (Gal. 5:19-21) because we constantly sin in our minds, speech, actions and even when we fail to act (Sin of omission).
  • Confession gives us an opportunity to receive the forgiveness of our Lord God (See Mathew 6:12-13).
  • Confession leads to repentance and salvation (Romans 10:9)

In Conclusion, confession of sin is very central in prayer and the eventual genuine growth of a Christian. Every follower of Jesus Christ must practice confession of their sin and walk in the freedom that the Lord Jesus Christ gives us. There is no salvation without confession of sin.

Blessings in Christ Jesus.
