MAKING A LEGACY

5th SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY SUNDAY OF 1st JULY 2018

Introduction: Legacy can mean different things to many people. The word “Legacy” means something transmitted (handed down) by or received from an ancestor or predecessor from the past. What we do today is what people will know about us tomorrow. We write history on a daily basis.

“A good name is more desirable than great riches “(Prov. 22:7). It takes you a long time to create a good name but a short time to destroy it. “A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge but the simple keeps going and suffer for it” (Prov. 22:3). Many people do not know the danger we are facing today because we have not carefully followed God’s teaching and instructions.

God’s timing and season: God has created a time for everything: and what we believe in and what we do daily is what we shall leave as legacy. There is time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven (Ecc. 3:1-8).

Your legacy should be constructed on God’s timing and season. Christians are not observing season!

God has made everything beautiful in its time (Eccl. 3:11). He has also set eternity in the hearts of men. God placed within a human heart (in your sub- conscious mind)  an inherent desire for more than just the earthly. Human Beings want to live forever and find eternal value in the world and the activities of life. Consequently, material things, secular activities and the pleasures of this earth will never fully satisfy.

“Whatever is has already been and what will be has been before: and God will call the past to account” (Eccl. 3:15). Your life’s past is the legacy.

When Jesus was about to go to heaven, he passed over the responsibility of teaching and giving instructions to Peter (John 21:15-17). In this beach scene, Jesus led Peter through an experience that would remove the cloud of his denial. Peter had disowned Jesus three times. Three times Jesus asked Peter if he loved him. When Peter answered yes, Jesus told him 1, 2 and 3-time to “Feed his lambs”, Take care of his sheep”, and “Feed his lamb” respectively.

Our relationship with God is like a marriage relationship. Two people are practically involved in the marriage encounter- the husband and wife. They must agree, come together, trust each other, and eat together. Live together, and do everything together. The bride is the Church and the bridegroom is God himself. What is your relationship with Yahweh? We are not looking for him, He is looking for us!!! He is love. He has prepared a wedding feast and the church is the bride. “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready” (Revel 19:6-9). Are you ready?

Conclusion: We need to be ready as individuals, as families and as the entire church. Jesus Said, “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21)
