BECOMING OBEDIENT BY WALKING IN GOD’S WAYS LIKE MARY (Luke 1:38)

On this first Sunday after Easter, I would like to welcome all of you and wish everyone a blessed day. We also come to day to celebrate Mary’s day with members of the mothers union of our Chaplaincy. Congratulations to all the mothers of our church for reaching the day that the Lord has made (Psalms 118:24).

According to Luke 1:38, the Bible says; “And Mary said behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word…”   Certainly there cannot be any better way to show her obedience to the will of God!

From the above, I draw the following lessons;

First, by her humble but firm way, Mary showed the Angel that whatever God had chosen her to do; she was willing to carry on with it even though she did not understand the whole mission.

Second, Mary shows us that with God nothing shall be impossible. (Luke 1:39)

Third, that God uses obedient human beings to carry out His mission on earth.

Fourth, it takes a godly lifestyle to attract the approval of God. Mary lived a godly life (Luke 1:28)

Finally, God’s promise of a messiah to come and save His people surely came to pass as the Scriptures had revealed.

In conclusion, we need to emulate Mary in her Faithful obedience to God’s will. The Bible says, she was highly favoured and blessed among all women (Luke 1:28). God will favour and bless anyone who would faithfully obey His words and walk in His ways of righteousness.

Have a blessed Mary’s day celebration and long live St. Luke’s Mother’s Union fellowship.

  1. How can we remember Mary?
  2. Why did the Angel come to a virgin called Mary and not another Virgin?
  3. Share your experience showing benefit of obeying God’s word. What would be the possible outcome of not obeying God’s words?
